MADISON, IN — A Sunman resident is facing a long list of charges after a reported theft and pursuit last weekend in Jefferson County.

Madison Police say officers responding to a theft-in-progress call at Walmart spotted the suspect’s vehicle and tried to initiate a stop but the driver took off.

After the driver, identified as 36-year-old Joshua Lake, drove his vehicle toward an officer’s cruiser twice and forced it off the road both times, the chase continued into an apartment complex. Police say Lake’s vehicle drove through yards in the complex and struck a tree.

Lake allegedly fled on foot before he was caught following a short chase. He allegedly continued to resist officers after being taken into custody, in the form of spitting blood into the face of Madison Police officers.

Lake was transported from the scene to Kings Daughters Health for treatment of injuries sustained when he struck the tree. He was later taken to a Louisville hospital for additional medical attention.

His passenger, 25-year-old Kaytlynn Callis of Madison, is facing a theft charge. Police say Callis stayed in the vehicle and did not offer any resistance toward officers.

Charges against Lake include battery on a police officer, resisting law enforcement, criminal recklessness, battery by bodily waste, and possession of methamphetamine.

Investigators say additional charges are likely.

An undisclosed number of Madison Police officers were treated for minor injuries.

The investigation is still going on.
