The 5th grade SLS Cardinals won a “Barn Burner” beating St. Mary’s of North Vernon 29-28. The Cardinals fell behind at the start and trailed St. Mary’s by as many as 12 points early in the game.
Adam Vogelsang and Cayden Pohlman turned the game by applying defensive pressure which resulted in steal after steal. With nine seconds remaining, St. Mary’s missed two free throws and Thomas Raver drove the length of the floor and was fouled with one second left on the clock. Thomas sank both free throws to take the only lead, 29-28, the Cardinals enjoyed all night.
The 5th grade SLS Cardinals upped their record to 2-0 on the season.
The St Louis 6th Grade basketball team traveled to North Vernon on Monday and came home victorious with a win over St Mary’s by the score of 33-12.
The team turned in another solid defensive performance as led by Karson Macke and Michael Wanstrath. The offensive attack was led by Jack Forbeck and Andrew Oesterling with 10 points each. Max Giesting poured in 9 and Tyler Kuntz and Riley Schebler both had 2 points.
The Cardinals play their 1st home game of the season this Wednesday at the St. Louis Activity Center with a rematch against St. Mary’s.
