The Oldenburg Academy boys’ tennis team reeled off its fourth consecutive win in a road match against Rushville on Wednesday, 3-2. Winners for the Twisters included Clay Eckstein at #1 singles, Grant Goldsmith and Jack Freeland at #1 doubles, and Zach Phillips and Grant Rosenberger at #2 doubles. Since August 24, OA has piled up wins against Lincoln, Union County, and Morristown. The Twisters will be in action again on Tuesday at Milan.

Congratulations to this week’s ORVC athletes and performers of the week. Jac-Cen-Del’s Claire Heilers is the girls golfer of the week; Ellie Lauber from South Ripley shares volleyball player of the week honors, and Milan swept in cross country: Elly Potts is the girls runner of the week while Gabe Riehle took top honors for the boys.

The Reds scored nine runs in the bottom of the first en route to a 12-5 romp over the Houston Astros last night at Great American Ball Park. A total of 13 men went to the plate for Cincinnati in that opening frame. Elly De La Cruz went 3-for-4 at the dish with three runs scored and a stolen base. The Reds go for the three-game series sweep this afternoon. Rookie Rhett Lowder makes the start for Cincinnati. He’ll be opposed by Hunter Brown. Coverage begins at 12:40 on 103.9 WRBI.

The Indiana Fever knocked off the Los Angeles Sparks 93-86 in WNBA action last night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Caitlin Clark recorded her second triple-double of the season when she poured in 24 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out 10 assists. The rookie becomes the fifth WNBA player to have multiple triple doubles in a season. With the win, the Fever improves to 18-16 on the year.

Meanwhile, Allison Barber is stepping down as President of the Fever at the end of the season. Barber has held the position since 2019, and is leaving the team to help lead development of the Marvella Project, a new effort to empower girls and women in Indiana through sports.
