Batesville girls golf picked up a road win over Center Grove last night, 150-166. Bulldog senior Ava South set a new school record for nine holes with a 5 under par 31. South took medalist honors while teammate Stella Maple was second with a 38.
Batesville boys tennis swept East Central by a commanding 5-love count. The Bulldogs won at all positions in straight sets to improve to 5-2 overall and 1-1 in the EIAC.
South Dearborn bested South Decatur in varsity volleyball last night in three sets. Scores were 25-17, 25-16, 25-9.
Batesville Middle School volleyball took two from Franklin County last night. The Bulldogs beat the Wildcat 7th graders in two sets, 25-15, 25-20…BMS won the 8th grade contest, 25-17, 25-18 to improve to 6-0 on the year.
Batesville and Greensburg traveled to Waldron last night for a multi-team middle school cross country invitational. The Batesville boys finished 4th with 84 while the Bulldog girls came in 2nd at 72. Both Pirate squads finished 6th in their respective races. Individually, Greensburg’s Maria Scholle won the girls race with a time of 11:35.
Batesville got past South Dearborn 5-4 in girls varsity soccer. The winning goal for the Bulldogs came with just two minutes left in the match. Ella Carpenter found the back of the net twice for BHS.

Nick Lodolo was scheduled to start last night but was scratched due to illness, which meant the Reds were in a bullpen game with Scott Barlow on the mound as the opener. Lefthanded reliever Reiver Sanmartin was called up from Triple-A Louisville. Another lefty, Sam Moll, was optioned in a corresponding move. The Reds also designated lefthanded reliever Joe LaSorsa for assignment.
The Phoenix Mercury defeated the Indiana Fever 85-79 last night. Kelsey Mitchell tossed in a game-high 29 points. Indiana returns home Friday to face the Chicago Sky.
Indianapolis 500 winner and Two-time IndyCar champion Will Power will not return to Team Penske for an 18th season. The announcement comes after several months of speculation about Power’s future with the team since his contract expired. It’s not clear where the 44-year-old Power will go next. Along with his IndyCar championships in 2014 and 2022, Power has won 45 races in his career, one of which was the 2018 Indy 500.
