Batesville boys tennis fell to Waldron three sets to two. Jevan Smith at #2 singles and Carson Meyer at #3 singles won their matches for the 11-6 Bulldogs.
Oldenburg Academy went two for two on the soccer pitch. The girls team shut out Rising Sun 8-nil on Senior Night, while the Twister boys blanked Knightstown 9-nil.
South Decatur volleyball lost to Waldron in four sets. The Mohawks won the first, second and fourth sets, while the Cougars took the second. Scores were 25-23, 25-21, 25-18, 26-24.
Batesville Middle School boys and girls cross country posted perfect scores at North Decatur. The Bulldog girls won with a 15 while the Chargers finished with 42. BMS Ana Shane was meet medalist. It was the Batesville boys over North Decatur 15-50. The Bulldogs’ Cael Luhman was the first runner to cross the finish line.
Greensburg Junior High cross country took part in the 13-team Columbus Central Classic Tuesday evening. The Pirates Maria Scholle came in first in the girls race with a time of 10:58. Elliott O’Sullivan led the Greensburg boys with a 33rd place finish and set a PR of 11:23.
Batesville Middle School volleyball split with Jennings County. The 7th grade Bulldogs fell in two sets to the Panthers, 25-14, 25-16. The BMS 8th graders completed a perfect 14-0 regular season with a three-set 25-21, 25-24, 15-11 win. Batesville won the first and third sets while Jennings County claimed the second set.
North Decatur 8th grade volleyball bested cross county rival South Decatur in two sets, 25-9, 25-12.
The Pittsburgh Pirates doubled up the Reds 4-2 in the series opener at Great American Ball Park in a game heard last night on WRBI. All of the runs were scored in the 2nd inning. After the Pirates put up four in the top of the frame, Elly De La Cruz accounted for both of Cincinnati’s runs with a homer to deep right field. De La Cruz went 3-for-3 at the plate. With the loss and a Mets win, the Reds fall one game behind New York for the final NL Wild Card spot. The middle game of the series is tonight and it features a marquee pitching matchup. Hunter Greene goes for Cincinnati. He’ll be opposed by Pirates ace and Cy Young contender Paul Skenes. Coverage begins at 6:10 on 103.9 FM.
Major League Baseball’s Joint Competition Committee voted Tuesday to bring the Automated Ball-Strike (ABS) Challenge System to the big leagues full-time starting with the 2026 season. The ABS Challenge System is coming to the major leagues following several years of experimentation in the Minor Leagues and use this year in MLB Spring Training and the All-Star Game. It gives teams the opportunity to request a quick review of some of the most important ball-strike calls in a given game.
The Las Vegas Aces pounded the Indiana Fever 90-68 in Game Two of their WNBA Playoff semifinal series, which is knotted at one game a piece. Game Three is Friday night in Indianapolis.
Former Cincinnati Bengals running back Rudi Johnson has passed away. Johnson was selected by the Bengals in the 4th round of the 2001 NFL Draft out of Auburn. He spent seven seasons with the team and was selected for the Pro Bowl in 2004. Johnson is fourth on the Bengals all-time rushing list with 5,742 yards, and holds the franchise record for most rushing yards in a season with 1,458 in 2005. According to multiple media outlets, Johnson died early Tuesday morning by suicide at his Florida home. Rudi Johnson was 45 years old. The Indianapolis Colts have signed veteran cornerback Mike Hilton to the practice squad. Hilton spent the past four seasons with the Bengals playing under current Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo.
