South Decatur topped Milan 53-33 in girls basketball last night. Four Cougars scored in double figures, led by Martin with a game-high 16 points. Voss led the Indians with 14.

Some eye-opening deals were made before yesterday’s NFL trade deadline…

The Cincinnati Bengals dealt linebacker Logan Wilson to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for a seventh-round pick in the 2026 NFL draft. Wilson is a sixth-year player out of Wyoming and was a third-round pick of the Bengals in 2020. He played in 76 regular season games with 65 starts for Cincinnati and totaled 531 tackles (308 solos), 19 Tackles for Loss, 5 1/2 sacks, 25 Pass Defenses, 11 interceptions, seven forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.  He also played and started in seven postseason contests, recording 62 tackles, four TFLs, three PDs, one INT and one FF.  Wilson recently requested a trade after his playing time dropped and he was effectively passed on the depth chart by rookies Barrett Carter and Demetrius Knight, Jr.

The Indianapolis Colts have landed two-time All Pro cornerback Sauce Gardner in a trade with the New York Jets. The Colts are sending first round draft picks in 2026 and ’27 plus wide receiver A.D. Mitchell to the Jets in exchange for the former UC Bearcat. Gardner was the fourth overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. He was an All-Pro cornerback in 2022 and 2023 and is under contract through the 2030 campaign after signing an extension back in July. Gardner missed the Jets Week 8 upset win at Cincinnati with a concussion. The Jets were on a bye last week. If healthy, he should be good to go for the Colts game on Sunday in  Berlin, Germany against the Atlanta Falcons. Gardner already played overseas once this season, when the Jets faced the Denver Broncos in London.

The Indiana Pacers take on the Brooklyn Nets in NBA action tonight in downtown Indianapolis. The Pacers are 1-6 coming into the contest. WRBI airtime is 6:30.

The first College Football Playoff rankings were revealed last night. Indiana is #2 behind Ohio State. Texas A & M, Alabama and Georgia round out the top 5. Notre Dame holds down the 10th spot.

On the field, Ball State hosts Kent State tonight for its lone Midweek #MACtion game of the season. Kickoff in Muncie is at 7 p.m.

The Reds have signed righthanded pitcher Keegan Thompson to a one-year Major League contract. The 30-year-old Thompson has spent parts of four seasons with the Chicago Cubs.  He was with the Triple-A Iowa Cubs for the entire 2025 season after being designated for assignment by Chicago on March 17. Thompson made his Major League debut against the Reds on May 2, 2021, at Great American Ball Park.

The top-ranked Purdue Boilermakers notched a season-opening victory last night over Evansville, 82-51. They played without Trey Kaufman-Renn, but Fletcher Loyer scored a career-high 30 points. The Indiana Hoosiers open their season tonight against Alabama A&M. The Butler Bulldogs are also in action. They host Southern Indiana at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
