New Palestine defeated Batesville 68-33 in girls basketball heard Saturday night on the Sports Voice. The Bulldogs are 0-1 to start the season. Elsewhere, East Central clobbered Richmond 67-29. Natalie Stenger led all scorers with 25 points. Lilly Maple added 12 and Audrina Dugan tossed in 10…Lawrenceburg slid past North Decatur 29-22…Madison rolled over Franklin County 70-31…And it was South Decatur over Southwestern (Shelby) 47-15.
Batesville 8th grade boys basketball went 3-0 and captured the South Dearborn Tipoff Tournament championship on Saturday. The Bulldogs defeated East Central 41-22 and Franklin County 54-36 in pool play, and got past Shelbyville 48-40 in the championship game…The Batesville 7th graders went 2-2 at the South Dearborn Tourney. They lost to Connersville 45-36, defeated St. Nicholas 46-12 and the host Knights 58-24, and fell to Shelbyville 48-27.

Greensburg High School grad Ella Chapman had a big match in Central Florida women’s volleyball’s three-set win over Iowa State on Saturday. Chapman had 10 kills, .750 hitting efficiency, and five blocks for the Knights, who will visit UC on Wednesday.
The Golden State Warriors blew out the Indiana Pacers 114-83 in NBA heard last night on WRBI. The Pacers were playing shorthanded, with nine players out due to injuries. Andrew Nembhard led Indiana with 14 points. The Pacers have dropped four straight and are now 1-9.
The Indianapolis Colts got past the Atlanta Falcons 31-25 in overtime in the first NFL regular season game played in Berlin, Germany yesterday. Jonathan Taylor ran for 244 yards and three touchdowns, including the walk-off game-winner in OT. Taylor broke the Colts’ franchise record for career rushing TDs, surpassing Edgerrin James with 66 touchdowns. With the win, the Colts improve to 7-2 on the season.
The Cincinnati Bengals had a bye this week, and will visit the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.
Former NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue died early Sunday at the age of 84. Tagliabue served as commissioner from 1989 to 2006, and oversaw a period of growth for the league, including record-breaking television deals, an expansion of franchises, and the continued boom in popularity of the NFL. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2000.
