
The Cincinnati Reds held off the Boston Red Sox 3-2 in a game heard yesterday on WRBI. Cincinnati takes two of the three games in the season-opening series. Eugenio Suarez clubbed a three-run homer in the 6th inning to provide all of the Reds’ runs. Rookie Sal Stewart went 2-for-2 at the plate with a run scored and a pair of walks. Rhett Lowder started and went five innings, giving up three hits, two earned runs, and two walks while striking out five. Brock Burke got the win in relief. Emilio Pagan pitched a scoreless 9th to earn his first save of the year. The Reds open a three-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates this evening in downtown Cincinnati. The Indiana Pacers cooled off the Miami Heat 135-118 in NBA action last evening at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Paskal Siakam recorded a double to lead Indiana. He scored 30 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. The win snaps the Pacers’ franchise-record 11-game home losing streak. The Blue and Gold tips off a three-game road trip Wednesday in Chicago against the Bulls.
In college basketball, the NCAA Tournament men’s Final Four in Indianapolis is set. Michigan crushed Tennessee 95-62 yesterday, and UConn rallied to eliminate Duke 73-72. 2025 Indiana Mr. Basketball Braylon Mullins from Greenfield-Central hit a three pointer way beyond the arc with .4 seconds remaining to cap off the Huskies’ comeback from 19 points down, and send them to Indy. On Saturday, Arizona eliminated Purdue 79-64. The Boilermakers finish at 30-9. And it was Illinois over Iowa 71-59. The Final Four takes place Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Alex Palou won the checkered flag at IndyCar’s Alabama Grand Prix yesterday. Palou started from the pole and dominated, leading 79 out of 90 laps. It’s his second win on the circuit this year.
