The Greensburg Pirates held off the Batesville Bulldogs 2-1 to win the Class 3A baseball sectional championship at Jennings County in a game heard last evening on the Sports Voice. Luke Hoeing tossed a complete game 4 hitter for Greensburg. He gave up one run with three walks and three strikeouts. Will Jaisle took the loss in relief for Batesville. He pitched 4 2/3 innings of four hit baseball, gave up a run, walked three and struck out 13 in his final appearance in a Batesville uniform. Offensively, Joey Everroad was 1 for 3 with an RBI for Greensburg; Ethan Smith added a stolen base and scored a run, and Cy Miller doubled twice and scored a run. Batesville was led at the plate by Alex Krekeler, was 2 for 3 with a run scored; Ronan Post was 1 for 2 with an RBI, and Dane Dudley was 1 for 2 including a double. The Pirates of coach Alex Meyer improve to 17-7 and advance to Saturday’s regional against Sectional 30 champion Scottsburg. Tyler Burcham’s Bulldogs finish the season at 21-6.
In Class 1A Sectional 59 at Morristown, Knightstown crushed North Decatur 24-7. The Panthers scored 10 runs in the first inning, eight more in the second and six times in the fourth. The Chargers’ season ends at 16-10.
In Class 1A Sectional 60 at Jac-Cen-Del, Hauser topped Oldenburg Academy 9-1. The Twisters end the season with a 10-10 mark.
Franklin County entertains Charlestown in the Class 3A softball regional tonight. WRBI coverage begins at 5:45.

Batesville track and field athlete Sarah Bedel has been named First Team Academic All-State. Veronica King, Ayden Eckstein and Blake Hornberger received honorable mention. Student-athletes need a GPA above 3.8 and SAT scores over 1200 to be eligible for academic all state honors.
The Batesville School Corporation and the Southeastern Indiana athletic community are mourning the passing of Bertha Hazelwood. She spent more than 30 years in various roles, including president of the Batesville Athletic Boosters, assistant to the athletic director and was a familiar face at the concession stands. Bertha Hazelwood was 75.
The Milwaukee Brewers nipped the Reds 3-2 last night in downtown Cincinnati in a game heard on WRBI. Brady Singer gave up all three runs on four hits over 5 innings and was tagged with the loss. Singer also struck out four and walked three. The Reds have lost three in a row while the Brewers have won eight straight. Game two of the series is tonight. Hunter Greene starts for Cincinnati.
