The Cincinnati Reds remain one game out of a National League Wildcard spot after sweeping the Tampa Bay Rays over the weekend. Cincinnati scored a 6-2 victory on Saturday before completing the sweep on Sunday, defeating Tampa Bay 2-1. Brady Singer allowed just an earned run on three hits through seven and one-third innings to get his eighth win on the mound while Gavin Lux and Austin Hays each drove in their 41st run of the season. Bubba Wallace became the first African-American winner at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday after capturing the Brickyard 400 which was heard here on WRBI. Wallace, who has now won three NASCAR races, fended off two overtime sessions, a rain delay and a late charge on the track by driver Kyle Larson to take the checkered flag. It was Wallace’s first win since 2022 in Kansas and allowed him a NASCAR playoff spot later this season. Larson finished second and was followed by Denny Hamilin, Ryan Preece and Brad Keselowski in the top five.

Laguna Seca remains Alex Palou’s best track, and the IndyCar Series championship will almost certainly will stay with him as well.  The Chip Ganassi Racing driver proved both with a dominating drive in the Grand Prix of Monterey. In leading 84 of the 95 laps, Palou won on the California road course for the second consecutive year – again from the pole – and scored his third win there in the past four years.  It’s his eighth win of the season. The series heads north to Portland in two weeks.

Start-to-finish dominance led the Indiana Fever to a 93-78 road win on Sunday against the Chicago Sky. The victory pushed Indiana 14-12 on the season and was highlighted by a 26-13 surge in the first quarter that set the tone for the remainder of the game. Kelsey Mitchell was 7-of-10 from three-point range and paced the Fever with 35 points and Aliyah Boston added 14 points. Indiana is off until Wednesday night and will host the Phoenix Mercury inside Gainbridge Fieldhouse at 7 p.m.

At Bengals training camp Sunday, rookie Shemar Stewart hit the field for the first time, joining 11-on-11 drills with the second-team defense after signing his four-year deal Friday. Joe Burrow was sharp again in team periods, while Trey Hendrickson’s holdout continues. First preseason test: August 7 in Philly.

The Indianapolis Colts continue training camp at their facility in Westfield. This morning’s practice is once again open to the public. Last week, head coach Shane Steichen said that he’s been impressed with how the defense looks so far. He also said there is no clear frontrunner yet for quarterback between Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones. Indianapolis opens the preseason next Thursday night (August 7) when it visits the Baltimore Ravens.
