The Boston Red Sox beat the Reds 13-6 last night at Fenway Park in a game heard on WRBI.  The Red Sox knocked Reds starter and rookie Chase Burns from the game with just one out in the bottom of the first inning. Boston scored seven times and sent nine men to the plate in the frame. The Reds will try to bounce back and even the series tonight when they send Brady Singer to mound. Boston counters with righthander Richard Fitts. Coverage begins at 6:40 on 103.9 FM.

Reds first baseman/outfielder Spencer Steer is the National League Player of the Week. Steer hit .522 with three home runs and seven RBIs in six games last week. Steer’s three homers came against San Diego Friday night.

The Reds yesterday placed RHP Ian Gibaut (right shoulder impingement) on the 15-day Injured List, retroactive to Sunday, and recalled RHP Joe La Sorsa from Triple-A Louisville.

The Indiana Fever are off to an 8-8 start, but Head Coach Stephanie White said Monday they can do a lot for their growth and confidence if they can beat the 14-2 Minnesota Lynx tonight. The winner of this game gets the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup trophy along with $500,000. That amounts to roughly $30,000 per player and the game’s MVP would get $5,000. Tipoff in Minneapolis is at 8.

Indiana Fever forward Aliyah Boston has been named a starter for the upcoming WNBA All-Star Game. Boston joins Tamika Catchings as the only Indiana Fever player to earn three WNBA All-Star selections. This is also the second time Boston has been selected as a starter, her first being in 2023. Fever guard Caitlin Clark was named an All-Star Game Captain this past weekend. The WNBA All-Star Game will be played July 19 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

The WNBA announced plans on Monday to  expand to 18 teams over the next five years, with franchises awarded to Cleveland, Detroit and Philadelphia. Cleveland will begin play in 2028, Detroit in 2029, and Philadelphia in 2030 – pending approval from the NBA and WNBA board of governors.
