South Ripley drubbed Milan 64-17 in the opener of the girls Ripley County Tournament in Osgood as heard last night on the Sports Voice. The Raiders Kaiya Rinear led all scorers with 17 points; teammate Evelyn Kelly added 12, and Illana Prosser chipped in 10 points. Lexi Hagga paced the Indians with 11. Ripley improves to 12-4 while the Tribe falls to 3-11.
In the nightcap, it was Batesville over host Jac-Cen-Del 55-39. Kaylin Kathmann led the Bulldogs with 13 points while Molly Gesell added 12. The Eagles Tinley Enneking tossed in a game-high 17 points. Teammate Brooklyn Simon added 13. BHS squares its record at 9-9 with the win. Jack dips to 4-11.
The boys portion of the Ripley County Tournament tips off tonight at Batesville. The South Ripley Raiders meet the Milan Indians in the lid lifter, followed by the host Bulldogs against the Jac-Cen-Del Eagles. WRBI coverage begins at 5:45.
In other local girls hoop action last night, Class 4A #14 East Central bounced New Castle 54-33; 3A #3 Greensburg dumped Eastern Hancock 68-40; Class 1A #10 Oldenburg Academy trounced Morristown 60-21; Rushville got past Franklin County 58-50; in the game of the night, North Decatur outlasted Edinburgh 64-58 in double overtime; and it was Tri over South Decatur 38-28.
East Central and Batesville split in boys middle school basketball last night. The Trojans won the 7th grade game 30-25. BMS 7th grade falls to 11-6. The Bulldogs took the 8th grade contest 34-26. Logan Schneider led Batesville with 18 points. The Dogs improve to 16-0…St. Louis 8th grade fell to St. Lawrence 42-40. Evan Jennings led the Cardinals with 18 points. Teammate Cam Walke added 13…North Decatur 8th grade rolled over Knightstown 52-25. Jake Whitaker led the 10-1 Chargers with 13 points.
The Cleveland Cavaliers got past the Indiana Pacers 120-116 in NBA action heard last night on the Sports Voice. Indiana has now lost 13 straight. Paskal Siakam scored 22 to lead the Pacers, who will be back in action tomorrow night when they visit Charlotte.
Indianapolis Colts owners Carlie Irsay-Gordon, Casey Foyt, and Kalen Jackson released a letter to the fans on Tuesday. In the letter, Colts’ ownership acknowledged the frustrations of this past season, and backed general manager Chris Ballard and head coach Shane Steichen. Also, cornerback Charvarius Ward revealed Monday that he may retire from the NFL. Ward has been battling complications from a series of three concussions he sustained this season.
In college basketball, The Butler Bulldogs were dealt their third straight loss last night at the hands of St. John’s. The final score was 84-70. The Bulldogs had a lead on the Johnnies as one point in the first half, but head coach Thad Matta says too many turnovers down the stretch are what did them in. Michael Ajayi had 14 points to lead the Dawgs. They hope to get back on track when they hit the road to face Xavier in Cincinnati next Wednesday.
