Class 3A #4 Batesville held off Connersville 53-45 in boys basketball heard Saturday on the Sports Voice before the snow started falling. James Hughes recorded a double double by tossing in a game-high 16 points and grabbing 11 rebounds to lead the Bulldogs, who have won six in a row and improve to 13-1 overall and 4-0 in the EIAC. Batesville also won the JV game 47-34. The Bulldogs’ Sam Dice led all scorers with 19 points…Also on Saturday, it was Lawrenceburg 51, Jac-Cen-Del 27.
Class 3A #3 Greensburg rolled over Batesville 71-29 in Saturday girls hoops action; South Ripley upended Switzerland County 53-40; Edinburgh got past Milan 39-35, and it was Trinity Lutheran 63, South Decatur 9.

The New England Patriots will meet the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl LX in Santa Clara, California on Feb. 8. The Patriots got past the Broncos 10-7 in snowy Denver in the AFC Championship Game, while the Seahawks edged the Los Angeles Rams 31-27 in the Pacific Northwest to claim the NFC crown.
Soon-to-be former Indiana University quarterback Fernando Mendoza says he is ready to take the next step in his playing career. He stopped by both ABC’s “Good Morning America” and NBC’s “The Today Show” on Friday. On both shows, he said that his mentors and the timing say it’s time to declare for the NFL Draft. He is expected to be taken first overall when the draft takes place in April. The Las Vegas Raiders will have the first overall pick.
In college basketball, the Purdue Boilermakers were stymied by an all-time performance inside Mackey Arena on Saturday. They lost to Illinois 88-82 off of 46 points scored by Keaton Wagler. Purdue coach Matt Painter called it one of the best performances by an opponent ever inside Mackey Arena. Indiana defeated Rutgers on Friday, 82-59. The win snapped a four-game losing streak. Indiana and Purdue will face each other on Tuesday in Bloomington.
