Class 1A #6 Oldenburg Academy topped Franklin County 47-32 in girls basketball heard last night on WRBI. Rachel Suttman led the Twisters with 14 points; Gina Grote added 12 and Addisyn Lambert scored 10. The Wildcats Ruby Singer led all scorers with 15 and Madesyn Sunderhaus poured in 11. OA has won nine in a row and improves to 10-1. Franklin County drops to 4-7…In other action, Batesville knocked off Richmond 54-42, and Class 1A #11 North Decatur bested Waldron 63-44.
In boys’ hoops, Southwestern (Hanover) defeated Jac-Cen-Del 72-57.

The Reds acquired catcher Jose Trevino in a trade with the New York Yankees in exchange for RHP Fernando Cruz and catcher Alex Jackson. Trevino was an American League All Star with the Yankees in 2022.
7th seed Notre Dame dumped 10th seed Indiana 27-17 in the first round of the College Football Playoff. The Fighting Irish have won 11 straight and improve to 12-1. Notre Dame advances to the quarterfinals against two-seed Georgia at the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans on New Year’s Night. The Hoosiers end their historic season at 11-2.
