North Decatur outlasted Madison 69-61 in overtime in boys high school basketball last night. The Cubs led throughout the game before the Chargers tied it in the last seconds of regulation to send it to the extra period. On the girls side, Class 4A #13 East Central steamrolled Lawrenceburg 73-35. Natalie Stenger and Audrina Dugan both scored 24 points for the Trojans, who go to 9-1 overall and 4-0 in the EIAC.
Batesville went on the road and swept South Dearborn in boys middle school basketball last night. It was the 7th grade Bulldogs over the Knights 42-17. Miles Lawrence paced BMS with 11 points. The 7th graders improve to 10-5. Batesville 8th grade came out on top 44-32. Logan Schneider tossed in a game high 20 points. The BMS 8th grade squad is now 14-0.
Franklin County topped Batesville 57-24 in dual-meet wrestling last night. Winners for the host Bulldogs were Carson Weiler, A.J. Dance, Adam Brewer, and Dylan Comer. The teams split the contested matches but the Wildcats were the beneficiaries of six Batesville forfeits.
Greensburg took two in a dual swim meet with Batesville last night. It was the Pirates winning the girls meet 92-64. Greensburg claimed the boys meet by a score of 112-56.
Lisa Gilpin has resigned as South Ripley varsity volleyball coach after several years at the helm. Gilpin will remain on staff at South Ripley Schools as a 6th grade Reading teacher.
The Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame will gain four new members in 2026. Second baseman Brandon Phillips, pitcher Aaron Harang, outfielder Reggie Sanders and 1990 World Series champion manager Lou Piniella will be inducted in late April.
The Cincinnati Bengals have acquired wide receiver Ke’Shawn Williams on waivers from Pittsburgh. Williams is a rookie out of Indiana University who was a college free agent signee by the Steelers in May. He played in eight games this year, and was waived by the Steelers on Monday.
Indianapolis Colts running back Amir Abdullah is urging his teammates to “not waver” as they face a tough stretch of the season. They have lost four games in a row, coming off a loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Their playoff chances are hanging on by a thread as a result. Abdullah says he has been through this type of adversity before as an 11-year veteran of the NFL. The Colts take on the 49ers this weekend with hopes of bolstering their shot at the postseason.
It was a tough night for the Butler Bulldogs in men’s college basketball action. The Bulldogs were blitzed by the fifth-ranked UConn Huskies 79-60. Head coach Thad Matta says they let too many opportunities slip through their fingers, and that shooting the ball was a tough task. Drayton Jones led Butler with 13 points. The Bulldogs will try to get back on track this Saturday when they take on Northwestern in the Indy Classic.
The Indiana Pacers are putting in some much-needed practice this week as they get ready for the New York Knicks. The Pacers are coming off back-to-back losses in games they had a good chance of winning last weekend. Head coach Rick Carlisle says the team is slowly getting healthier. Ben Shepperd, Obi Toppin, and Aaron Nesmith remain sidelined with various injuries.
The Indiana Hoosiers continue to prepare for the College Football Playoff. The Hoosiers are the top seed in the CFP after going 13-0 with a Big Ten title. Indiana will return to the gridiron on New Year’s Day when it plays in the quarterfinals at the Rose Bowl. They will face either Oklahoma or Alabama.
