Batesville Middle School volleyball took two from Greensburg last night. It was the 7th grade Bulldogs over the Pirates in two sets, 25-11, 25-14. BMS took the 8th grade contest, 25-17, 25-24. Both the 7th and 8th grade Bulldog squads improve to 2-0.

The Reds defeated the Los Angeles Angels 6-4 in Anaheim in a game heard last night on WRBI. Hunter Greene struck out 12 and did not walk a batter over 6 innings, but did not figure into the decision. The Reds scored two in the top of the 9th inning after the Angels tied the game in the bottom of the 8th. With the win, Cincinnati locks up the series win and have won 10 straight against the Angels dating back to 2019. The Reds have won three straight overall and remain a game behind the New York Mets in the National League Wild Card race. Cincinnati goes for the series sweep tonight when Nick Martinez goes to the mound against lefthander Yusei Kikuchi. Broadcast time is 9:08 p.m. on 103.9 FM.

Outfielder Jake Fraley has been claimed off waivers by the Atlanta Braves. Fraley was designated for assignment by the Reds on Sunday.

Daniel Jones has won the Indianapolis Colts’ starting quarterback job. Jones beat out Anthony Richardson for the position. He takes the keys to the Colts offense with less than three weeks before the September 7 season opener at home against the Miami Dolphins.

CJ Carr has been named starting quarterback of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Carr won the job over several others. The Irish open the 2025 season on August 31 at Miami of Florida.

Indiana Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle has signed a multi-year extension with the team. Carlisle led the Blue and Gold to its first NBA Finals in 25 years this past spring. He first coached the Pacers from 2003 to 2007 and was an assistant under Larry Bird when Indiana last made the Finals in 2000. Carlisle returned to the franchise in 2021 after a successful 13-year run with the Dallas Mavericks that included winning the 2011 NBA title.

Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham will miss the rest of the season with an MCL tear in her right knee. Cunningham suffered the injury in Sunday’s game at Connecticut. The teams says Cunningham is expected to make a full recovery. She’s the third Fever guard to go down with a season ending injury in the past two weeks. Aari McDonald (broken bone in foot) and Sydney Colson (ACL tear) were lost for the year after they were both hurt in the August 7 game at Phoenix. Caitlin Clark has been sidelined for the past month with a groin injury. In a corresponding move, the team signed guard Shey Peddy to a seven-day hardship contract and released guard Kyra Lambert.

Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell has been named the WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week. Mitchell averaged 25.3 points per game, 5.7 assists per contest and 2.3 rebounds a game last week. This is the fourth time in her career that Mitchell has won Player of the Week honors and the second time this season.
