Batesville topped host North Decatur 9-4 in varsity baseball on Tuesday.

In JV action, it was New Palestine over Batesville 2-0.

Batesville Middle School’s golf team teed off its season with an intrasquad match at Hillcrest on Tuesday. Team B outshot Team A on a fifth score after both squads tied at the end with a total of 196. Team A’s Stella Maple earned medalist honors by shooting a 41.

The Reds blanked the San Francisco Giants 1-0 on the West Coast late last night in a game heard on WRBI. It’s the second straight night the Reds have shut out the Giants. The lone run of the contest came on Jose Trevino’s RBI ground out in the top of the 3rd. Nick Lodolo pitched six scoreless innings to get the win. Emilio Pagan earned the save with a spotless 9th inning. The Reds go for the sweep of the three-game series this afternoon. Nick Martinez goes up against Cy Young winner and future Hall of Famer Justin Verlander in the starting pitching matchup. Coverage begins at 3:15 on 103.9 FM.

Before last night’s game, the Reds placed infielder Matt McClain on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to April 5, with a slight left hamstring strain, and optioned RHP Carson Spiers to Triple A Louisville. The team recalled infielder Noelvi Marte and outfielder Will Benson from Louisville.

The Pacers knocked off the Washington Wizards 104-98 in NBA action last night in downtown Indianapolis. Paskal Siakim led Indiana with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Myles Turner also recorded a double double. He poured in 14 points and grabbed 11 boards. The Pacers have won five in a row and improve to 48-31. They’ll be back in action tomorrow night at home against Cleveland. The Cavaliers own the best record in the NBA at 63-16.
