Batesville knocked off Connersville 7-6 in 9 innings last night. The Bulldogs improve to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the EIAC. Will Jaisle’s go ahead double in the top of the 9th plated Dane Dudley with what turned out to be the winning run. Rylan Yeager struck out the final two Spartan hitters with the bases loaded and notched the win.

In the JV contest, Batesville doubled up Connersville 8-4. The host Bulldogs scoring was highlighted by a six-run 5th inning.

North Decatur run ruled Morristown 13-0 in varsity baseball yesterday on the Yellowjackets home diamond. The Chargers plated seven runs in the 2nd before adding more in later innings.

The Batesville High School track and field teams opened their outdoor season by sweeping a duel meet at Greensburg last night. It was the Bulldogs over the Pirates in the boys meet 76-52. BHS won 11 events. The Batesville girls won by a 60-point margin, 96-36, and took 12 out of 16 events. Ella King broke her own school record from a year ago in the shot put with a throw of 41 feet 4 inches.

The Pacers got past the Cleveland Cavaliers 114-112 in NBA action heard last night on WRBI. Tyrese Haliburton led Indiana with 23 points and 11 assists. With the win, the Pacers improve to 49-31 and clinch home court in the first round of the playoffs. The final home game of the regular season is tonight when the Pacers take on the Orlando Magic. Tipoff is at 7:00.

The Reds begin a three-game weekend series tonight against the Pittsburgh Pirates in downtown Cincinnati. Brady Singer will start for the Reds. He’ll be opposed by lefthander Bailey Falter. Coverage begins at 6:10 on 103.9 FM.

The Colts released kicker Matt Gay on Thursday. Gay signed as a free agent with Indianapolis before the 2023 season after winning Super Bowl 56 as a member of the Los Angeles Rams over the Bengals. The 31-year-old Gay also previously spent time with Tampa Bay in 2019. He was also on the Colts’ practice squad in 2020. The decision to move on from Gay comes two years into a four-year, $22.5 million contract. The Colts now have one kicker on their roster in Spencer Shrader, a 2024 undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame.
