(Clark County, IN) – Ripley County Prosecutor Ric Hertel has filed 15 felony counts against the former Clark County Sheriff.
Hertel was assigned the case as special prosecutor in late July and filed the charges this week against Jamey Noel, who has been arrested following a five-month-long Indiana State Police investigation.
The charges against the 52-year-old Noel are one count of Corrupt Business Influence; two counts of Theft (both Level 5 felonies); three counts of Theft; four counts of Ghost Employment; four counts of Official Misconduct, and one count of Obstruction of Justice (all Level 6 felonies).
ISP says Noel assigned some of his jail employees to projects while on duty that were not related to their jobs and, while serving as chief of the Utica Volunteer Fire Department, allegedly sold town-owned vehicles five times for personal gain.
Noel was arrested Wednesday and bond was set at $75,000 during his initial hearing in Clark Circuit Court yesterday.
He is being held in the Scott County Jail.
Hertel has previously served as special prosecutor in cases out of South Bend and Johnson County.
He is currently handling a police misconduct case in Shelby County involving an 18-year state police veteran.
