Special Olympics Indiana Hosts Winter Games in Lawrenceburg

State Championships for Three Sports Set for Jan. 12-14

Special Olympics Indiana is gearing up for its 44th annual Winter Games, slated to take place Jan. 12-14 at Perfect North Slopes in Lawrenceburg. Athletes from across the state will compete in state championships for three sports: Alpine skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing.

The festivities kick off on Sunday, Jan. 12, with an Opening Ceremony, followed by two days of thrilling competition on Jan. 13-14.

“These Winter Games offer a truly unique experience for our athletes,” said Jeff Mohler, President and CEO of Special Olympics Indiana. “This event highlights our year-round commitment to providing sports training and competition opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities.”

In addition to the athletic events, the weekend will feature a Winter Fest celebration at the Higher Ground Conference and Retreat Center. Athletes and their families can enjoy games, activities, and more between competitions.

Schedule of Events
Sunday, Jan. 12

  • Opening Ceremony: 7:30 to 8 p.m.

Monday, Jan. 13

  • Practice: 9 a.m. to noon
  • Competition: 2 to 4:30 p.m.

Tuesday, Jan. 14

  • Competition: 10 a.m. to noon
  • Awards: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Admission and Spectators
The event is free for spectators, and media members are encouraged to attend.
