VERSAILLES, IN — A local school recently received a double dose of good news.
South Ripley Elementary has been named a Best Elementary School in the State of Indiana by US News and World Report.
To qualify, US News looks at accountability ratings, and a school has to be in the top 30 percent of schools across the state.
“There are a lot of elementary schools in the State of Indiana because most school districts have multiple elementary schools, so to see South Ripley Elementary be recognized in such a fashion as one of the best elementary schools, being in that top 30 percent in all categories across the state…we’re very proud of that,” said Superintendent Rob Moorhead.
In addition, Moorhead said South Ripley Elementary will receive a visit in the spring from the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE), which could award it the STEM School designation.
“To be a STEM-certified school, you have to show that you integrating STEM elements into your curriculum and into your instruction on a regular basis for your students so that we are preparing them for the technology-rich life we have now in the 21st Century,” Moorhead stated.
Moorhead said they expect to hear from IDOE about the designation status before the end of the school year in May.
