(Southeastern IN) – Around a foot of snow or more was dumped on some places in the area during this weekend’s major snow storm.
The National Weather Service says Batesville had the highest snowfall in our area with 14.2 inches measured; 12.5 inches fell just outside of Greensburg; Versailles had 11.1; Lake Santee checked in at 11 inches measured, and nine-and-a-half inches fell in Dillsboro.
All area counties went to Warning Travel Status when road conditions deteriorated and became hazardous. We have a link where you can check your county’s travel status toward the top of the Closings, Cancellations and Delays page on wrbiradio.com.
A winter storm warning remains in effect until Monday at Noon.
On top of the snow, we’ll be stuck in the deep freeze this week. An extreme cold warning goes into effect at 6 p.m. and runs through Noon on Tuesday.
Very cold wind chills down to 15 below zero are expected.
Forecasters say dangerously cold wind chills as low as 25 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.
You’re urged to dress in layers, including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you have to go outside.
It’s also a good idea to keep pets indoors a much as possible, and make sure outdoor animals have warm and dry shelter, food and unfrozen water.
