Shelbyville man killed in weekend crash

Edinburgh, In. — Indiana State Police say a Friday evening crash in Bartholomew County Killed a Shelbyville man.

The initial investigation by indicates a 2003 Honda Accord being driven by Evan Stewart, age 27, Shelbyville, Indiana was traveling eastbound on County Road 1000 North near Base Road at 9:30 p.m. For an unknown reason, Stewart’s vehicle left the roadway before striking a concrete barrier. The vehicle then overturned before coming to rest in the roadway.

Evidence at the scene indicates that Stewart exited the vehicle and was standing in the roadway near his vehicle when he was struck by an eastbound 2002 Chevrolet truck being driven by Andrew Adams, age 25, Columbus, Indiana. Adams vehicle also struck Stewart’s vehicle that was stationary in the roadway. Stewart sustained fatal injuries in the second collision. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Bartholomew County Coroner’s Office. Adams was not injured in the collision.

A third vehicle was reportedly at the scene when the second crash occurred although the occupants of that vehicle left the scene prior to being identified. The Indiana State Police would like to speak to the occupants of that vehicle. Anyone with information about this crash is urged to call the Indiana State Police-Versailles Post at 812-689-5000.

Toxicology tests on both Stewart and Adams are pending at this time. Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in both crashes.

The investigation is ongoing.

The Stewart family has been notified.
