Sharon R. Wickens, 80, of Greensburg, passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2022. She was born August 27, 1942 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, the daughter of Harry and Regis Murphy.
Sharon and her family moved to Shelbyville when she was fourteen years old. She met her husband, Don H. Wickens, at the Durbin Hotel in Rushville. She and Don were engaged and celebrated their wedding reception at the same location on June 12, 1965.
Sharon loved to play bridge with friends and bake cookies for her grandchildren and for Hospice and other organizations. She avidly followed the news and Notre Dame football. Her favorite activity was talking with her many friends and everyone else she encountered. Sharon never met a stranger.
Sharon worked for many years on absentee voting during elections. She was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg. She was a long-time volunteer for many local organizations, including St. Mary’s, Meals on Wheels, and Hospice.
In addition to her husband Don, Sharon is survived by three children: Patricia (Mike) McClendon of Richmond, Virginia; Mark (Amy) Wickens of Greensburg; and Robert Wickens of Indianapolis. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Ashley (Jake) McConnell, Tyler Wickens, Kaitlyn Wickens, Madalyn Wickens, Casey McClendon, and Mac McClendon; and two great grandchildren: Brody and Griffin McConnell.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, William Murphy.
Family and friends will gather at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, November 14, 2022 at the St. Mary’s Church in Greensburg to pray the rosary. Visitation will follow until the funeral mass to be held at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. John Meyer officiating. Internment will follow the Mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
