Several area girls tracksters qualify for state meet

At the IHSAA Girls Track and Field Regional hosted by Franklin Community Tuesday, East Central had an impressive third place finish with 60 points trailing champion Center Grove with 116.5 and runner up Columbus North with 68.

The following area athletes finished among the top three in their respective events to automatically qualify for the state finals on Friday, June 3 at Indiana University:

  • Champion of the long jump, East Central’s Ellie Hill with a winning leap of 18’6.5″.
  • Second in the 100 hurdles, Greensburg’s Elizabeth Mitchell who set a new school record time of 14.87.
  • Second in both the discus and shot, Greensburg’s Emarie Jackson who also broke the shot school record with a throw of 45’4.5”.
  • Second in the 300 hurdles and third in the long jump, East Central’s Hope Fox.
  • Third in the 400 relay, East Central’s Fox, Hill, Anna Graff and Rachel Campbell.
  • Third in the 1600 relay, East Central’s Graf, Launa Davis, Hill and Campbell.

It was also confirmed Batesville’s fourth place 3200 relay of Megan Allgeier, Emma Weiler, Katie Olsen and Kaylie Raver qualified for state based on time.

Batesville’s Lisa Gausman-  The Batesville Bulldog Girls Track Team traveled to Franklin Community to compete in the Regional Meet. It was a pretty beautiful night and the Bulldogs had individuals competing in 9 of the 16 events. The biggest highlight for the evening came towards the beginning of the meet with the 4 x 800m relay. Megan Allgeier, Emma Weiler, Katie Olsen and Kaylie Raver ran an almost 10 second season best and Megan Katie and Emma running personal bests. This time also placed them 4th overall, but their time qualified them for the State Meet! Yes, the 4 x 800m relay team gets to extend their season a little longer as they will be traveling to Indiana University to compete in the State Meet next Friday. Congratulations girls!

Others competing for the night are:

  • Lily Meyer competed in the 100m dash and she was 10th place overall with a personal best time of her running career.
  • Madelyn Pohlman competed in the 200m dash and ran a second personal best time placing her 6th overall.
  • Katie Olsen ran the 400m dash and ran a personal best time giving her a 10th place finish.
  • Megan Allgeier and Kaylie Raver both ran the 800m run, placing 10th and 13th respectively.
  • Lily Pinckley and Emma Weiler competed in the 1600m run. Lily placed 8th overall and Emma 16th.
  • Nadine Davis and Elena Kuisel competed in the pole vault, placing 13th and 14th.
  • The 4 x 100m relay of Madelyn Pohlman, Lily Meyer, Lizzy Nobbe and Elena Kuisel came through the finish line in 8th place.
  • The 4 x 400m relay team of Kaylie Raver, Megan Allgeier, Madelyn Pohlman and Katie Olsen was 10th overall with Megan Allgeier running a personal best split.

Excited to spend a little more time with some of these girls and prepare for the “Big Dance” next Friday! Good luck girls!

Connersville’s Jeff Cooley- The girls track and field team competed in the Franklin regional last night. Brooke Sudhoff was fourth in the pole vault. Kaytelyn Seeley was sixth in the 400. The 4×400 team of (Barr Dixon Seeley Soriano) were eighth. This concludes a great season for the girls. The coaches would like to thank all of the girls for a great year.
