Ruth Catherine Huber, 92, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2023, spending her final weeks surrounded by family and love. She was born on January 15, 1931 to Raleigh and Bertha Gutapfel in the Lawrenceville area and spent her early years on the childhood farm. She married the love of her life, Allen J. Huber on August 16, 1958 and they shared 57 wonderful years of marriage before his passing on February 4, 2016. They spent all of their married life on a beautiful farm outside of Sunman where they worked side by side to manage a dairy herd, crops and raise their three children. Ruth loved to spend time outdoors helping on the farm, mowing and was an avid gardener. She had beautiful flower beds and was a master of preserving food by canning and freezing. She cherished time spent with her family. She was a lifelong member of St John’s Lutheran church where she was very involved with numerous activities. Ruth spent her recent years in assisted living in Hamilton County, Indiana, closer to her children.
Those surviving who will cherish Ruth’s memory include children: Doug (Bernie) Huber of Arcadia, IN, Brenda (Patrick) Heinzman of Cicero, IN, Daryl (Paige) Huber of Indianapolis, IN; grandchildren Katie (Brad) Burke, Rachel Huber, Sarah (Alex) Wilson, Jordan Gerbsch, Jessica Gerbsch, Wilson Huber, Grace Huber; great-grandchildren Aubrey, Bennett, Adele, Nylah Burke, Leo Wilson; brother Cletus (Patsy) Gutapfel, Sunman; siblings in law Pat (Jr) Gutapfel, Arlene (Alvin) Gutapfel, Vernon & Betty Jo Huber; Goddaughter Laura (Doug) Werner, Godson Jim (Justine) Gutapfel, numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Besides her husband and parents, Ruth was preceded in death by sisters Ann Clemenz, Esther Bausback and brothers Raleigh Gutapfel Jr. and Alvin Gutapfel.
Friends and family may visit with the family on Friday, April 21, 2023 from 4-7 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church (Hubbells Corner), and again on Saturday, April 22 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Evangelical Union Cemetery, adjacent to the church. The church is located at 12523 North Dearborn Road, Sunman, Indiana.
