Robert C. Hauck

Robert C. Hauck, age 87 of Enochsburg, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio.  Born June 22, 1936, in Cincinnati, he is the son of Marie (Denier) and Irwin C. Hauck.  He married Charmaine Zimmermann on September 27, 1958, at St. Aloysuis Catholic Church in Cincinnati. Bob was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church – St. John Campus in Enochsburg.

Bob and his three siblings grew up in Cheviot, Ohio.  Irv was the firstborn, 5 years later Bob and his twin sister Marlene “Peachy” were born, and 5 years later Jerry was born.  Bob and Peachy, the twins, had their own language, that only they understood.  They would make up nicknames for other people – Irv’s nickname was Zippy.  They lived across the street from St. Martin’s Catholic Church.  The older 3 siblings were often in trouble, like when they were supposed to be at church, but they were hiding under the front porch.

Green Gables in Cheviot was a big part of Bob’s life.  Green Gables was owned by his wife Charmaine and brothers-in-law Roy and John Zimmermann.  Bob, Roy, and John worked together on many projects at Green Gables, including plowing snow with a tractor without a cab.

Bob was a bricklayer by trade, where he became known as “Babo” to many. Creating many beautiful fireplaces for family and friends.  Including the fireplace, he built at “The Farm” after Bob and Char bought the farm in 1969.  Bob loved spending time in the woods and on his tractor maintaining the farm.  He spent many hours in the woods at the farm cutting wood to heat the house.  Bob loved heating with his wood stove, but a few years ago he transitioned to a pellet stove.  He spent just as much time tending to the pellet stove as he did the wood stove.

On many Sundays, family and a few life-long friends came out to the farm to hang out and help at “The Cheap Ass Hauck Farm”. Bob’s brother-in-law Dick spent countless hours bush-hogging, trimming, and cutting wood.  Dick was who Bob counted on to do the “heavy lifting” at the farm. On Sundays the farm would be bustling with activity including pig roasts, shooting trap, and drinking beer. Often Bob’s donkey, Cindy, would enjoy drinking beer, too. Cindy often won the beer drinking contest. One of the bigger celebrations at the farm was a 90th birthday party for Marie Hauck, Bob’s Mom.

Bob and his lifelong friends, Clete, and Joe Z took two trips out west to the Rocky Mountains and the Grand Canyon.  Bob, Clete, and Joe Z. worked together on many projects, calling themselves Acme Construction. They would send out bills with outrageous prices.  Bob and his friends enjoyed pulling pranks on others, including rigging up a board with horseshoes on to make hoof prints in someone’s garden.

Bob enjoyed spending time with his granddaughters, Amanda, and Jessica, including watching Mrs. Doubtfire at least one hundred times.  Bob and Char bought a golf cart for the farm that Bob enjoyed taking rides with the grandkids and great grandkids. Bob also enjoyed watching the great grandkids explore the farm.  Amanda, Jessica, and the great grandkids all called Bob – Grandpa Farm.

Bob was a devoted husband to his wife Charmaine.  They met when Char’s car “Bouncing Beulla” broke down in the parking lot of Western Hills Plaza.  Later in life, Bob worked diligently at helping Char manage her diabetes – reminding her to “check your sugar.”

Bob also enjoyed “cruising”.  Sometimes it would be the long way home after having lunch with his friend Mike or taking his Cincinnati friends and family around the countryside while telling them who lived where.  And after lunch each day with Char they would take the back roads home.

Bob loved animals.  He had two donkeys and many dogs throughout his life.  He was known to always have dog treats in his shirt pocket for any dogs he would meet in his travels.  Any dogs who visited the farm knew right were to go to get there treat!

He is survived by his wife Charmaine of Enochsburg; daughters Darlene Hauck of Enochsburg, Dianne Hauck and Karen (Michael) Baker, all of Cincinnati; grandchildren Amanda and Jessica Baker of Cincinnati; great grandchildren Kaylee, Liam, Alaina, Olivia, and Caleb; twin sister Marlene (Richard) Smith and brother Jerry (Debby) Hauck, all of Cincinnati.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his great granddaughter Kaylynn (Kaylee’s twin sister) and brother Irwin Hauck.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 23rd, from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m., at St. Catherine of Siena Church – St. John Campus in Enochsburg.  A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at noon at the church, with Fr. Bill Ehalt officiating.  The burial will be at St. John’s Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to a local animal shelter of the donor’s choice.  For online condolences go to www.weigelfh.com.
