Ripley County underage drinking party investigation ongoing

Holton, Ind. — Acting on a tip, Ripley County Sheriff’s deputies made several arrests at an underage drinking party last week in the Holton area.

When police arrived to the home on County Road 400 West just after midnight on June 14 several partygoers began to flee. Six people under 21 have been charged with alcohol related offenses including the host Emma Wilhoit. Those arrested were Isaiah Begley, Kylan Brandt/Gray, Mackenzie Black, Christopher Begley and Danielle Baugh.

Police allegedly found numerous alcohol containers and evidence of a “beer pong” game being played.

The owners of the home, Paul Tunny and Melissa Wilhoit, told police they were sleeping inside and had no idea how many guests were in the home, but they did give Emma Wilhoit permission to have a party. They have not been charged.

Melissa Wilhoit is a teacher at South Ripley High School. Administrators have acknowledged the severity of the situation but have not decided what action to take, if any.

Ripley County officials say the matter remains under investigation by law enforcement.
