Ripley County Republicans meet for Lincoln Day Dinner

Batesville, Ind. — Saturday evening about 75 elected officials, candidates and republicans gathered at the Knights of Columbus building in Batesville for the annual Lincoln Day Dinner. Indiana state treasurer Kelly Mitchell was the keynote speaker and  Batesville native and Republican state representative Randy Frye emceed the event and offered remarks.

Mitchell gave the crowd a complete walk-through of her job responsibilities and committees she serves on. She noted that her office is the watchdog over state funds, including investments. She said the Indiana 529 College Savings Plan has expanded at least 25 percent on her watch and management fees have been cut. She also said a new Indiana 529-A College Savings Plan will be announced soon for disabled children.

She said Indiana is the only state in the country where the 911 board is chaired by the treasurer, something she is very passionate about. She said Indiana has lead the way in 911 since the town of Huntington implemented a program in 1967, the first in state and the second in the United States. She also praised the efforts of 911 units across the state that have made the text-to-911 program a huge success.

Representative Frye revved up the crowd in an “off” election year by saying,” We can’t slow down, we know the Democrats won’t.” He also walked the crowd through his six-month decision making process involved in the possibility of running for a seat in the 6th congressional district. He said,” It was appealing. But, after consulting with private citizens, colleagues and governor Eric Holcomb it was clear his place was here serving the members of the 67th district.”
