(Versailles, IN) – Ripley County Commissioners have given final approval to the commercial solar ordinance, and have lifted the solar moratorium.
This comes after the Ripley County Area Plan Commission forwarded the amended rules to county commissioners with a unanimous favorable recommendation last month.
It also ends nearly a year of discussions and negotiations. The issue came to the forefront after a group of property owners near Batesville raised concerns about some of their neighbors leasing land to solar companies.
Negotiators landed on a 400-foot setback from any adjacent existing residence, which was an increase from the proposed 250-feet.
With an ordinance in place, Ripley County property owners can lease land to companies to install solar panels.
