Rev. Charles L. Flory, of Greensburg and formerly of Batesville, passed away on Friday, October 21, 2022 at the age of 85. He was born on June 10, 1937 in Vincennes, IN. His parents were Paul L. and Mary E. (Keasling) Flory.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma K. (Stafford) Flory of 59 years; daughters, Yvonda L. (Todd) Kramer of Hamburg, IN and Andrea K. (Kris) Gordon of Newburg, IN; and three grandsons, Isaac Kramer, Aidan Gordon and Karson Gordon. He is also survived by a sister, Carolyn Armstrong of Crystal River, FL; sisters-in-law, Virginia Flory of Monroe City, IN and Vee Flory of Russellville, KY; plus several nieces and nephews. Three brothers, Bill, Joe and Don preceded him in death.
Charles graduated from Indiana State University and earned a Masters of Divinity from Garrett-Evangelical Seminary in Evanston, IL and was an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church. He began his ministry in 1960 as a student pastor at the Walnut Grove United Methodist Church, Monroe City and retired forty-three years later. He served churches in Newport, Hillsdale, Terre Haute, Clinton and Greencastle prior to pastoring the Batesville United Methodist Church for twenty-six years.
Pastor Charles also volunteered as a chaplain for the Versailles District of the Indiana State Police, a hospice chaplain with Margaret Mary Hospital and for the Margaret Mary Oncology center in Batesville. He enjoyed being with people, laughing and telling stories. He cherished quiet moments observing people and nature. As a pastor he saw life filled with new beginnings and challenges where dreams were realized.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 27, 2022 from 4-7pm at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville, IN. Funeral Services are 10:00am on Friday, October 28, 2022 at the Batesville United Methodist Church. Rev. Chris Renick and Rev. Chris Stephens officiating. Burial will follow in the United Methodist Cemetery in Batesville.
