Batesville, Ind. — Batesville native and state representative from the 67th District Randy Frye is pleased with the two year $32 billion balanced budget passed by the Indiana General Assembly this year. The budget addresses infrastructure improvements, increasing education funding and measures to improve the state economy.
The financial roadmap increases the gas tax by 10-cents and increases some BMV fees to generate an estimated $1.2 billion per year by 2024 to establish a long-term infrastructure funding plan.
The budget increases funding for the governor’s economic development efforts by $15 million per year, increases funding for school districts, students learning English, students with severe disabilities and doubles pre-K funding. A total of $60 million is allocated for teacher bonuses and they will be based on school size, not performance.
Indiana veterans will receive an increase in exemptions and increase in funding for programs to eliminate veteran homelessness and treatment of PTSD.
State law enforcement agencies will receive a 10 percent pay raise in year one and a 14 percent increase in year two.
Funding to help the state’s most disadvantaged children will increase $200 million over the two year budget and funding for adult protective services will double.
