The Cincinnati Reds had the number two overall pick in last night’s first round of the MLB Draft. With the pick, the Reds selected RHP, Chase Burns out of Wake Forest. Burns was the highest-graded pitcher in this year’s draft class. He had a 10-1 record with a 2.70 ERA across 16 starts. Burns also set a school record for strikeouts in a single season with 191. With these numbers, he won the ACC Pitcher of the Year award and was a First-Team All-American. Throwing over 100 innings in his college season, Burns will likely be shut down for the rest of 2024 as Rhett Lowder was last season.
In round two, the Reds selected SS, Tyson Lewis out of Millard West High School in Nebraska. Lewis was the number 1 player coming out of high school in Nebraska and had been committed to Arkansas. In the Competitive Balance Round B, the Reds selected RHP Luke Holman out of LSU.
