Reds end 6-game skid in walk-off fashion against Rangers

The Cincinnati Reds went into Monday night’s matchup with the Texas Rangers on a six-game losing streak. However, the Reds ended that streak, winning 7-6, thanks to a walk-off single by TJ Friedl in the bottom of the ninth.

The Reds fell behind early, 5-1, heading into the bottom of the third but were able to answer with three runs in the inning. Spencer Steer drove in two runs on a triple and would eventually score on a ground out by Tyler Stephenson to make it 5-4.

In the bottom of the 8th, the Reds would trail 6-4 with the bases loaded and two outs. Rangers pitcher Jose Leclerc would walk Henry Ramos and Nick Senzel, scoring two runs for Cincinnati to tie the game at 6-6.

Reds relief pitcher Alexis Diaz would retire the Rangers side in order in the top of the ninth.

Jonathan India walked to get things started in the bottom of the ninth for Cincinnati. He would advance to second on a passed ball. It would ultimately lead to him scoring on the aforementioned game-winning single by TJ Friedl to make it 7-6.

The Reds return to action Tuesday evening for game two against the Rangers. Coverage can be heard on 103.9 WRBI at 6:10 pm, with the first pitch at 6:40 pm.
