Raymond E. Gibson, 84, of Columbus, passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana. He was born June 30, 1940, in Clarksburg, IN, to Earl and Margaret (Henneke) Gibson. They preceded him in death.
Mr. Gibson was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. He was also a veteran of the US Navy. During his time in the Navy, he was a member of the Navy Band, New York City. He was proud of being able to play in every ticker tape parade from 1958-1962.
Raymond was also former member of the Columbus City Band, Columbus Symphony Orchestra, Bloomington Symphony Orchestra, and the Bloomington Chamber Orchestra. He also enjoyed watercolor painting.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard “Alton” Gibson.
Surviving are his loving wife of 45 years, Celia Gibson of Columbus; sister, Margaret (Larry) Hooten of Batesville; and nephews, Nicholas (Kate) Patterson of Boston, MA, Nathan (Erin) Patterson of Carmel, Richard (Joanie) Gibson of San Antonio, TX, and Barry (Dawn) Gibson of Michigan.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Grace Lutheran Church, with Pastor Todd Riordan officiating. Military honors will immediately follow and will be accorded by the Bartholomew Combined Honor Guard.
Visitation will also be on Saturday at the church from 11:00 a.m. until service time.
Memorials in Raymond’s name are suggested to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or Hillsdale College, Hillsdale, MI.
