Raatz bill would require schools to alert parents about gender issues

State Senator Jeff Raatz (R-Richmond).

Statehouse — Local State Senator Jeff Raatz (R-Richmond) has authored a bill in the General Assembly that would require schools to inform parents if students request to change their names or pronouns or express questions about their gender identity.

Under the bill, the student’s parents would have to be notified within five days.

Sen. Raatz says parents should know if their child is struggling and should not be kept from the situation.

Raatz is the Senate Education Committee chairman and represents portions of Franklin County and all of Union, Wayne, and Henry counties in the legislature.
