(Jefferson County, IN) – Jefferson County Prosecutor David Sutter has released his findings in a December 2023 investigation into the deaths of four people on Telegraph Hill Road in rural Jefferson County, Indiana.
Shortly after 4 p.m. on December 12, emergency personnel responded to the home near Madison, and upon arrival, first responders noticed the house was on fire.
Firefighters entered the burning residence and located the bodies of the four victims.
Despite life saving measures, all four were pronounced dead at the scene.
After the fire was put out, detectives from the Indiana State Police Versailles Post were called to the scene.
The four were identified as 35-year-old Naomi Briner; 12-year-old Adelia Briner, 8-year-old Leland Briner and 6-year-old Iyla Briner.
Naomi Briner was the biological mother of the three children.
All four were taken to the Hamilton County, Ohio Morgue where autopsies were performed.
According to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, the three children were shot to death and Naomi Briner died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
After the investigation concluded, the case was presented to the Jefferson County Prosecutor’s Office for review. Sutter says the evidence indicates Naomi Briner was responsible for all four deaths.
“This was a tragic case that has been heartbreaking for the community and all who have been involved in this investigation. My heart goes out to the involved families for the tragedy that they have endured. I commend the Indiana State Police detectives and the other agencies that have assisted in this case. At this time, I am not requesting that investigators pursue any additional leads in this case,” Sutter said.
In addition to the Jefferson County Prosecutor and Coroner, other agencies involved in the investigation were the Indiana Fire Marshal’s Office, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Madison Police Department.
