INDIANAPOLIS – A pretrial conference is scheduled for a lawsuit aimed at the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department.
M. Shane Satterfield, 38, died in March while serving a two-week sentence for drunken driving.
His mother, Lynn Brewsaugh, filed a suit alleging the sheriff and jail staff acted with “callousness or reckless indifference” to the inmate’s failing medical condition.
The conference is set for January 28 at the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana in Indianapolis, the Greensburg Daily News reports.
A recent state inspection found the jail to be understaffed and overcrowded.
