GREENSBURG – A Rushville man accused of slapping and choking a teenager has been charged with neglect of a dependent, strangulation and battery.
Officers arrested David Carmickle, 34, Sunday, after the incident allegedly occurred in a Decatur County home, the Greensburg Daily News reported.
Court documents show that it began after a 17-year-old female threw a cellphone at Carmickle during an argument. The minor claimed he slapped her in the face with her hand, and choked her on the floor.
Investigators say there were visible signs of injury on the victim, the newspaper reported.
Carmickle did not admit to striking the juvenile and told police he restrained the minor out of fear she would hurt two children that were in the home, that later went outside as the dispute continued.
The Office of Family and Children interviewed the victim and children that allegedly saw the incident. The children were placed in custody of a relative and the victim was treated at the Decatur County Memorial Hospital Emergency Room.
