RUSHVILLE, Ind. – The victim of an alleged beating says he was targeted because of his skin color.
Rushville Police were called after the battery reportedly occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday, November 1.
The victim, a black male, told police he was battered by one or more white men that were using racially charged slurs during the attack.
“The specifics of the language used are sensitive to the continuing investigation of this incident,” Rushville Police Chief Craig Tucker said.
The incident remains under investigation as Tucker said evidence has been handed over to the Rush County Prosecutors Office for a review to determine if, or what criminal charges will be filed.
The police chief told us that a determination could be made as early as Friday. A conviction for a hate crime could carry a harsher sentence.
