The Greensburg Pirates traveled to South Dearborn on Monday to take on the Knights and fell 8-1.
The Pirates looked to bounce back after a tough loss to Franklin County last Tuesday, but fell short. Greensburg was able to play aggressively throughout the first 15 minutes of action, while senior goalkeeper, Mason Ponsler kept the game scoreless for the Pirates. Unfortunately, South Dearborn was able to put 3 goals away before halftime as the Greensburg defense tried to adjust to a balanced Knights attack.
The second half was much of the same for the Pirates, who only saw 3 players register shots on goal. Nicholas Zapfe and Collin Springmeyer had 3 and 2, respectively, while senior, Vincent Pavy kept the Pirates from being shut out, by scoring the team’s only goal on a PK. Mason Ponsler had 15 saves for the Pirates, who saw 29 shots on goal from the Knights compared to the Pirates 6.
The Pirates are back in action tonight (Tuesday, 8/28) home against non-conference Southwestern. Game time is 6:30 pPM.
