Phillip Eugene Porter entered this life on September 24, 1961 in Alva, Oklahoma. He resided in Amarillo, Texas where he graduated and then joined the U.S Navy in July 1980. He received the Humanitarian Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with 1 star, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Battle “E” Award, Overseas Ribbon (2), Navy Achievement Medal and the Second Good Conduct Award. He was a class “C” radioman and served on the Monticello and Tripoli E. During his time in the service, he married Lillie Ann in 1982. The couple had a son named, James Porter in 1985, who was the love of his life. Phil was honorably discharged on February 8, 1991. After serving his country in the navy, Phillip moved from San Diego, California to St. Pete, Florida where he worked with his father in communications until 1999. In 1999, Phillip moved to Manville, Indiana where he married Gina Geyman and operated the Manville General Store. He enjoyed making “BBQ with Attitude” and smoking brisket. In 2000, Phil rejoined the communication profession as a telecommunication specialist at Belterra Casino, along with meeting his future wife Shannon, in IT. As his career progressed, he worked for the VA Medical Center as a senior VoIP system engineer until December 2016. He semi-retired, when moving to Nevada in 2016. Phil and Shannon remained friends throughout the years until they began dating in 2014. Shannon and Phil were married July 29, 2018 with family and friends present. Phil enjoyed fishing, tinkering with electronics, and the stock market. On March 5, 2021 at 12:57a.m. surrounded by family, Phillip gained his wings after a long battle with SCLC cancer. Phillip made a difference in our lives and will be missed a great deal.
He was preceded in death by his, grandma, Norma Keller and his grandpa, Kenneth Porter, his grandma, Martha Pauline Dunn and his grandpa, James Earl Laman Sr.’ his father, Edwin Eugene Porter, died in 2019; his mother, Phyllis Ann Laman, died in 2010 and his cousin, Kelley Smith, died in 2021.
Phillip is survived by his wife, Shannon Porter of Las Vegas, Nevada formerly of Switzerland County, Indiana; his sister, Rhonda Porter of Texas; his children, James Matthew Porter and his wife, Brandy Porter of St Peter, Florida, Ashley Hall of Florence, Indiana, Brittany Perkins and her husband, Shane Perkins of Florence, Indiana, Cody Hoffman of Las Vegas, Nevada formerly of Switzerland County, Indiana and Tara Hoffman of Vevay, Indiana; his grandchildren, Emma James Porter, David Walker, Brianna Walker, Bryson Reynolds, Peyton M. Turner, Lane Turner, Peyton B. Perkins, Braxton Perkins and Jrue Pulver; his niece, Jennifer Porter; his aunts, Cheryl Porter, Gloria Smith, Beverly Lyons and Jamie Laman; his uncles, Leroy Porter and James Laman; his cousins, Kimberly Johnson, Summer Lyons, Tracy Porter, Travis Porter, David, Christy, Sean Smith, Paul, Susan Porter, Michael Laman and Jill Peavy.
