Pauline L. “Polly” Block

Pauline (Polly) Louise Block, age 95, passed away peacefully November 23, 2020. She was born September 18, 1925 in Dewberry, Indiana to William and Amelia Meyer. Pauline married her lifetime love, Lloyd Clement Block, in December of 1948 who preceded her in death in 2011.

Polly loved cooking, traveling, gardening and arts and crafts. Her delicious fried chicken and meatloaf dinners were a Sunday family tradition. As was traveling across the U.S. with their pop-up camper to visit the national parks. Her love of flowers and gardening was on full display in her backyard which rivaled many professionally designed landscapes. Also Polly would meticulously design and sew doll clothes for her children’s dolls, Barbie and even GI Joe.

Polly worked at Schenley Distillery in Lawrenceburg, Indiana where she met Lloyd. Later she worked for Seagram’s Distillery where she was the first woman employed in the company’s Quality Laboratory.

Spiritual life was very important to Polly. She was a devoted member and deacon at Aurora’s First Presbyterian Church. There she loved to hear the church’s organ and sing hymns. She was also an avid writer for much of her life, penning countless poems with her Christian faith and her love of family as central themes.

Polly is survived by her brother and wife, Bob and Darlene Meyer; her children Kathy Ebbert (spouse, Tim Ebbert) and Randy Block (spouse, Susan Block); three grandchildren, Nick Ramey, Ian Block and Rachel Block; and three great grandchildren. Plus numerous nephews and nieces whom she loved deeply. She was preceded in death by her eldest son, Dennis Block, in 2013.

Due to the pandemic, the family will be holding a private service with a celebration of life to follow when it is safe to do so. In lieu of flowers, donations or memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Aurora or the Dearborn County Clearinghouse.
