Part of SR 229 Closed Due to Flooding

(Batesville/Southeastern IN) – State Road 229 in Batesville from Mulberry Street to County Road 1400 North is closed until further notice due to flooding.

The Batesville Police Department says this includes southbound 229 from Huntersville Road.

Southeastern Indiana has been hit in recent days with heavy and steady rain falling on top of saturated ground.

As a result, a Flood Warning was issued until 2 p.m. Thursday for Franklin County, and a Flood Advisory was posted for the same period in Ripley and Dearborn counties.

Ripley County Emergency Management says there are several flooded roads you need to avoid:

  • State Road 62, specifically at the intersection of Friendship Main St and Cave Hill Road. This road is closed.
  • The area of County Road 225 West, south of 800 South.
  • The area of county roads 450 North and 350 West
  • The area of county roads 400 West and 550 South
  • South Cavehill Road, south of U.S. 50 in the area of the steel bridge that crosses over Laughery Creek. This has been reported to EMA as impassable.

Public safety officials remind you to never drive through flooded roads, and to “Turn around, don’t drown.”
