The event is designed for Decatur County residents to help feed food insecure neighbors by filling a Sheriff’s Office patrol car with non-perishable food donations for the Greensburg Community Bread of Life.
Donations collected during the event as residents do their weekly shopping or what they bring to the event will help Bread of Life stock its shelves for community meals and grocery distribution to those in need throughout Decatur County.
“One of the things I enjoy the most is the genuine generosity of so many of our residents – that the people of Decatur County look after their neighbor and are excited for opportunities to do so,” said Sheriff Bill Meyerrose.
According to Feeding America’s 2024 report, approximately 11 percent of Decatur County residents struggle with food insecurity, so each donated item helps meet the basic needs of county residents from childhood through senior adulthood.
Community members are encouraged to come to Wal-Mart Saturday between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. to grab a shopping list of needed items to guide their donations as they do their weekly grocery shopping.
The event is made possible through collaboration between the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office, Greensburg Community Bread of Life, and Walmart.
