For the second time in as many nights, Oldenburg Academy varsity baseball found themselves in a hole after the first inning. Last night, they found themselves in a 5-0 after the first inning. However, the Twisters ran off with the lead late in the game in a 9-7 victory over South Decatur on Tuesday. “What a great team win tonight. We didn’t start like we wanted to, but our guys stayed the course and never lost focus or their confidence.” Coach Kolks said.
The game was tied at seven with Oldenburg Academy batting in the top of the sixth when Matthew Hesselbrock singled, scoring two runs. The Twisters earned the victory despite allowing South Decatur to score five runs in the first inning. South Decatur got on the board in the first inning when Avery Seegers singled, scoring one run. The Cougars ended up scoring 5 in the first.
The Twisters had their own big inning in the third inning. The inning was capped by Jacob Cornelius with a bases clearing double that scored 3 and tied the game at 5.
Hoff started the game for the Twisters. The pitcher went one inning, allowing five runs on one hit and striking out two. Clay Eckstein was credited with the victory for Oldenburg Academy, allowing five hits and two runs over six innings, striking out six.
Brady Lane took the loss for South Decatur, pitching three-and-two-thirds innings Dale Peters finished the game out for the Cougars, striking out 5 in the final three-and-one-third innings.
