(Beech Grove, IN) – A Beech Grove police officer was shot and killed and another was wounded while responding to a domestic incident and another officer was wounded Monday evening.
Indiana State Police say 33-year-old Officer Brian Elliott died from his wounds. The second officer is in stable condition and is expected to recover.
The officers were responding to a report of a disturbance at an apartment complex when a man police tabbed as the suspect opened fire.
The suspect fled the scene on foot, which touched off a shelter in place order.
Several hours after the dragnet was put out, the suspect – identified as 47-year-old Kenneth T. Johnson – was arrested by members of the Indianapolis Metro Police Department (IMPD) SWAT Team and the shelter in place order was lifted.
The investigation into the circumstances is ongoing.
ISP is the lead agency with support from IMPD.
Officer Elliott was a graduate of Beech Grove High School and IUPUI. He had been with the department for two years.
