(New Orleans, LA) – College football fans visiting New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl can’t help but notice how quiet it is in town.
After Wednesday morning’s deadly attack on Bourbon Street, the typically lively tourist hotspot has a much more somber atmosphere.
Hammond Mayor Tom McDermott is in the Crescent City to see the Notre Dame Fighting Irish play the Georgia Bulldogs in the Sugar Bowl.
“We got up this morning and just explored and you know there’s Louisiana state troopers here there’s FBI agents everywhere. Of course there’s you know local police it’s it’s a police zone all around the French Quarter,” said McDermott. “It’s very quiet, normally New Orleans streets there’s music everywhere and people celebrating. It’s very somber, very somber. I’ve never seen it like this.”
Kickoff for the College Football Playoff quarterfinal was postponed until 4:00 Thursday afternoon.
The winner will face Penn State in the CFP semifinal round at the Orange Bowl.
