Nora H. Meyers, 88, of Dillsboro passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2021, at Ripley Crossing in Milan. Nora was born to Otto and Nora (Land) Harrison in Oakdale, Louisiana on Wednesday, January 4, 1933. She graduated from Oakdale High School and attended McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana. She met the love of her life, Murrell Meyers, when he was stationed at Camp Polk in Vernon Parish near Leesville, Louisiana. They were married on Saturday, November 21, 1953 and made their home in Dillsboro, Indiana where they resided their entire married life. To this union was born four children: Jane Ellen, Janet Lynn, Mark Alan, and Michael Fred. Nora was a homemaker and a leading member of the Dillsboro United Methodist Church. She served on several boards and committees and was church treasurer for many years. She taught Sunday school for nearly 50 years while also working at the Dillsboro Food Pantry. Nora enjoyed reading, sewing, flowers, and gardening. She loved being on the farm and mowing the yard. Her greatest passion in life was her family.
Nora is survived by her sons Mark (Kim) Meyers and Mike (Ginger) Meyers both of Dillsboro; daughters Jane (Duane) Ohlmansiek of Dillsboro and Janet (Bob) Negley of Milan; sisters Anita VanOuerkirk of Texas, Ottolynn “Ott” Murphy of Louisiana, and Ruby Harrison of Texas; fifteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Nora was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Nora, husband Murrell, grandson Matthew Meyers, and four sisters.
Family and friends may gather to share and remember Nora from 3-5 PM Sunday, June 6, 2021, at the Dillsboro United Methodist Church, 10071 Front Street, Dillsboro, IN 47018. A service will be held at 10 AM on Monday, June 7, 2021, also at the Dillsboro United Methodist Church with Pastor Deb Beason officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery in Dillsboro. Memorials may be given in honor of Nora to the Dillsboro United Methodist Church or Dillsboro Food Pantry.
