(Batesville, IN) – A new Youth Experience Program is set to launch at the Southeastern Indiana YMCA.

The comprehensive line-up of new offerings is made possible by a grant from the Lily Foundation.

Anna Huse, who joined the Southeastern Indiana YMCA in July as the Youth Experience Coordinator, has been tasked with facilitating the new programming.

“Our goal is to offer youth the opportunity to build skills and expand their experiences in exercise, academics, arts, sciences, nature, and social interactions,” says Huse. “The programming will help youth develop new strengths by promoting learning, problem-solving, inclusion, creativity, and confidence through positive behavior change.”

From toddler open gym drop-in times to after-school academic support and tutoring for Kids Club students ages 5-12, over the next few months the youth experience will include many activities that the local community has not seen at the Southeastern Indiana YMCA before.

Kids who come to the Y to hang out after school will be encouraged to limit their time on devices/phones and use their time in a productive manner.

Areas of focus that will include indoor/outdoor activities, homework time, or group social time will be offered.

There will be a boys two-day volleyball clinic on September 20-21 and October 4-5.

The girls’ clinics will be the week following the boys. Look for a group presentation to learn about sports nutrition to maximize athletic performance by a registered dietician, and a new Kids Functional & Sports Performance class.

Sprinkled into the schedule will also be S.T.E.A.M. activities.

Huse comes to the Y with a background in youth sports having participated in and coached youth in high school and Division 1 college sports.

She has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Evansville in Mass Communications and a Master’s degree from Miami University in Exercise and Health Studies.

“Anna is very passionate about developing programs to expose people to a variety of lifelong activities with Y youth sports, community involvement, and improving on each individual’s overall behavioral and physical wellness,” says Tara Britton, Chief Executive Officer, Southeastern Indiana YMCA. “We are thrilled to have her on our Y team and look forward to her advancing our commitment to nurturing the potential of all children along their journey to adulthood, so that they can become active, thriving, and contributing members of society.”

The next youth programming session at the Southeastern Indiana YMCA begins Monday, September 18.

In addition to traditional youth classes in gymnastics and swimming, there will be opportunities to participate and learn in a class on “Nutrition for Game Day Peak Performance” on September 18, clinics for boys and girl’s volleyball, 5 on 5 youth basketball scrimmages, and a youth Functional Fitness and Sports Performance class.
